family Numbering System

numbers juggling 160.jpgWhat is the Family Numbering System that the WFA refers to from time to time?
Why is the numbering system that the Whiteside Family Association uses so important? Dr. Donald Whiteside created the system to keep track of the many families that he identified as being part of the world Whiteside population. He had over 30,000 cards recording all the families for whom he had data. He never used a computer.

We estimate that there are about 1600 families numbered from 1 to 9000. Do you know what Family Group you belong to?

For additional information “Read More” or go to RESEARCH—FAMILY NUMBERS.
Members may see over 900 family numbers listed and indexed for research in the RESEARCH – MEMBER’S PUBLICATION.

Don Whiteside documents

The PUBLICATION INDEX can be viewed by all in the RESEARCH menu. It will be interesing, evenmanuscript 2-160.jpg for the non-genealogist/historian, to see the accumulated data

Dr. Don Whiteside wrote 85 manuscripts covering all aspects of the Whiteside families genealogy. These include many families in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom and Ireland. He also touched on New Zealand, Australia and Fiji. He wrote manuscripts on those who served in the military in the Civil War and in World War 1 and many others..

It is truly amazing the time and effort that Don put into these works. Much of the data was gained from letters and conversation with Whiteside family historians. We have been able to place these in the website for Member's viewing. Some are even transcribed into editable text that can be cut and pasted. Enjoy.
MEMBERS: Don Whiteside's publication for members are available for your research and downloading. Members go to Research - Member's Publications - Dr. Don Whiteside's Publication.

Future Planning for the W F A

A Whytsyd Library? We all have dreams of the future and things that we hope will happen. The Directors and Officers of the Whiteside Family Association have a wish for the future. We would like to see a depository for all the data, books, charts, CDs that are being gathered together. It would be wonderful to have these in one central spot with staff or volunteers that would search for and provide information on the extended family. Perhaps a wing or a section of a library or museum named for the Association or maybe even a benefactor.
We can dream can't we?

Looking Ahead
If you happen to be doing some estate planning would you give the Whiteside Family Association some consideration?

The tour of Northern Ireland by members of the Whiteside Association last September was  a grand success. Clicking on the picture on the left will bring up a picture gallery show of some of the sites and participants. Wouldn't you know they would find a local Whiteside watering hole

Don't you wish you could have been there? Another reason for joining the WFA. Will there be tours in the future? Up to the members to decide.
