Family Research as Done in 1862 PDF Print E-mail

(This is a copy of family research as found by Bill Whiteside 4700.  It shows that we Whitesides have always valued our family history. This craving for knowledge of our heritage is not a twenty-first century phenomenon.)

“The most of the matters here recorded were related to me by my father F.R. Whiteside.  My father was born in Little Britain Township, Lancaster Co. Pa 13 November 1805.

His father’s name was John Whiteside and his mother’s Mary Ferguson.  His grandfather’s name was Abraham Whiteside and his grandmother’s Rebecca or Martha.  My father told me Rebecca, but a Thos.Campbell who had known Abraham wrote to me in 1862 through Wm. Black, that her name was Martha.  This Campbell thought Abm. W. came from Ireland.

billgWFA volunteers are hard at work on a whole range of new activities.  If you would like to join any of these, even on a part-time basis, contact the respective manager.

WFA Original Document depository: In the Public Research section under Archives Depository of the WFA website there is an extraordinary list of Whiteside Family documents and publications. A team of volunteers is transcribing these for downloading onto the website.  More hands are needed.  Manager:  Bob Whitside This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 2010 Annual Meeting PDF Print E-mail

The 2010 meeting will be in Lancaster, PA. October 1-3. Southern and Eastern PA was the home for many Whitesides in the 1700’s.  We’ll be looking at pioneer life in Lancaster County from 1680-1750.  Some of our families were closely associated with Casper Stoever in Lebanon Twp.  Others were in Colerain and Little Britain Twp. and in Chester County.  Religion was a major reason for immigration, so Scotch-Irish Presbyterians were abundant here.  Elliott Whitesides and Bill Whiteside 3300 Family Sr. Historian will be present to help with individual family histories. Lancaster County Historical Society has interesting “Colloquia & Lectures” such as the Sickle quilt and the Harper’s Raid to offer.  There will also be a tour of Whiteside homesteads.  Make your plans now to be present--more details to follow.
